Earthquake Geology

Earthquakes are among the most significant natural hazards facing society, globally and within Canada. My research aims to determine the controls on tectonic faults that cause earthquakes. I use ancient, fossilized faults as representatives of modern systems to identify the mechanisms governing fault rupture, creep and healing over centuries to millennia of the seismic cycle. My use of cutting edge field and analytical techniques, my skill in understanding the rock record of earthquakes, and my accomplishments in teaching and advising young scientists have established me as an international leader in the field of earthquake geology.
