英文摘要
Rubber reinforcing fillers used in the tire industry primarily consist of spherical carbon black or silica nano- or**micro-particles. A game-changing advance would result from the introduction of anisotropic one-dimensional**(1-D) nanostructure-based (e.g., nanorods, nanofibers) fillers that are expected to show unique size- and**directionality-dependent material characteristics.**This project builds on successes of a previous Engage Grant supported effort and will target increasing the**scale of the methods for preparing anisotropic silica and developing an understanding of the factors that**influence nanorod/fiber formation/growth. The resulting materials will be provided to our industrial partner for**testing in rubber composites.
