British Columbia's common forest management practices facilitate the burning of forest harvest residues. With the Government of Canada's committing to the reduction of emissions within the framework of the Paris climate change agreement, this practice may no longer be acceptable. Concurrently, there is a growing interest in using harvest residues, for example for the production of solid fuels, such as wood pellets.This project will assess the ecological and economic impact of current practices, including an analysis of greenhouse gas emissions caused by the burning of harvest residues, and compare the consequences of current practices with alternative uses.
