Where conventional onsite wastewater treatment systems, such as septic tanks and leaching fields, are not an option, advanced onsite treatment technologies and tertiary treatment technologies are used. Bergmann North America Inc. (BNA) is an Ontario-based company specializing in advanced residential and commercial wastewater treatment systems with flexible scalability and remote management capabilities. The company's flagship technology, WSB®clean, has a unique biofilm reactor that facilitates the efficient decomposition of complex wastewater contaminants. BNA would like to understand how its system's treatment modules can offer superior treatment in areas with strict regulations, during frequent usage patterns. The company will collaborate with Fleming College's Centre for Advancement of Water and Wastewater Technologies (CAWT), where its technology will be installed, operated and assessed under real-world conditions in order to optimize its performance from pre to post treatment. Particular attention will be paid to the ways in which changes in pH, nutrient level and influent temperature affect biofilm formation and the overall performance of the bioreactor. The project will lead to BNA's increased technical credibility as well as to expanded market opportunities in challenging geographies and jurisdictions, where the need for advanced wastewater treatment is high.
