英文摘要
The average Canadian uses 329 litres of water per day, with bathing and showering accounting for approximately 35% of water use in homes. There is a great potential for reusing this water, as typical shower water is only lightly soiled with mild pollutants (e.g. dissolved soaps, body oils) before entering a wastewater treatment system. Water scarcity is driving the need to move from the current linear economic model of take-make-use-dispose of water to a new regenerative circular model of treat-recycle-reuse. Pledge Resource Managers Inc. dba RainStick Shower (RainStick) is an Ontario-based company developing greywater solutions with the ability to capture the latent heat energy of shower water. The company's flagship technology, the closed-loop shower (RainStick ShowerTM), saves both water and energy consumption by 80%. The product recirculates, treats, heats, and reuses greywater after each shower, helping recover some of the water and heat that is lost from warm water cycling down the drain. RainStick is looking to overcome some of the operational challenges related to the shower's filtration technology, to allow for commercialization of the RainStick Shower within North America. The company will collaborate with Fleming College's Centre for Advancement of Water and Wastewater Technologies (CAWT), where its technology will be installed, operated, assessed and optimized under controlled conditions. Particular attention will be paid to the membrane filtration process, ensuring filters consistently treat the required volume of water without compromising their longevity. The project will lead to RainStick's increased technical credibility as well as commercialization and marketing of this technology.
