Viking Innovations Ltd. is a Saskatoon company offering Dalmatian SmartFirePrevention (TM) devices. Their systems work with smoke detectors, providing second-level security. When a smoke detector activates, the Dalmatian system triggers to immediately disconnect power to the kitchen range and counter plugs. Without heat or electricity, kitchen fires are far less likely to start or spread. These first-generation (Gen1) systems are built-in boxes hardwired into a home's electrical system and require professional installation. For this project, Dalmatian will collaborate with Saskatchewan Polytechnic (SP) to research proof of concept/prototype of the SmartFirePrevention Generation 2 (Gen2). Gen2 will offer homeowners a device that is smaller and simpler to install, simply plugging in between the range and outlet. This safety device will be accessible to more homeowners. Gen2 will also be the robust, consumer-friendly Dalmatian platform on which future models will be developed.
