The aim of this collaborative research project is to investigate the printability of proteins and other biomolecules on new polyethylene-based materials, recently developed by PolyAnalytik, as well as to develop novel ink-formulated biomaterials. Such biomolecule-functionalized polymers will form the basis for making stretchable biomaterials for disease diagnosis, environmental contaminants quantification, and etc. Dr. Yufeng Tong and his research team at the University of Windsor will work with the industry partner, PolyAnalytik, to achieve the objectives of this research. Specifically, we will develop an ink formulation suitable for proteins, test printing on polymers, optimize and characterize the function of the proteins on the polymers.
