The Advanced Materials Division of the CCNB-INNOV network at the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) located in Caraquet wishes to acquire a drop tower machine. This machine will be used to perform impact tests on advanced materials, including composite materials: laminated (fiber and resin), sandwich panel faces, etc. One of the most critical properties for composite materials is impact resistance. The required drop tower machine will therefore be very useful in order to complete the list of mechanical tests (tensile, shear, bending and compression) considered important, in particular for fibreglass boat builders. The acquisition of this impact machine will make CCNB-INNOV's operations more efficient and render collaborative projects more attractive to Atlantic Canada's small and medium-sized businesses operating in sectors related to the marine industry. The proposed equipment will also be dedicated to the fundamental research and should therefore be extremely attractive to Atlantic Canadian universities requiring mechanical characterization services for advanced materials; this impact machine improves therefore the teaching approach and the quality of students' laboratory experiences.
