The Building Envelope Technology Access Centre (BETAC) provides building envelope and assembly research, technical services and training to building owners, designers, product suppliers, service providers and trades in coldclimates. The breadth of services and access to specialized technology, expertise and facilities provide flexibility andadd value to an audience that is proactive and seeks efficiency.Over the last four and a half years, the TAC has focused on the originally proposed service portfolios of appliedresearch, technical services and training. The TAC is actively engaged with a variety of organizations and small tomid-size enterprises (SMEs) around the region, with activities in each of the three service categories. Completedover 40 whole building air tightness tests over 22 million sq. ft. of building floor space; identified over 250,000 cubicmeters of equivalent natural gas energy consumption to heat unintended air leakage which translates to 475 tonnesof greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) per year.RRC is requesting the renewal of NSERC CCI's TAC support for another five-year period. Access to RRC'stechnological assets and expertise by industry would have been extremely limited without this support. RRC'scontinual operation of the TAC is critical for sustaining the momentum towards innovation and on-going appliedresearch programs and services.
