In the materials research program at the University of Saskatchewan, a dynamic group of scholars led by Canada Research Chair and Professor Alexander Moewes is developing and employing leading-edge synchrotron-based spectroscopy techniques. They study the characteristics of advanced materials, both independently and in collaboration with researchers worldwide. By answering key questions concerning the structure of these materials, these scientists are laying the groundwork for tailoring new materials with novel optical, electronic, magnetic, and catalytic properties. They expand scientific knowledge in such areas as new magnetic materials, low dimensional materials and materials for lighting applications. Their research findings will ultimately be used in such areas as the development of new sensor devices, improved nanoelectric circuits, harder, longer-lasting coatings, and new light emitting diodes.
