Green Building Technology Access Centre

The Green Building Technologies Access Centre (GBTAC) at the Southern Alberta Institute ofTechnology in Calgary provides applied research and technical services to private sector partners and othersin the building and energy products and services industry in southern Alberta and western Canada ThisCentre was established in 2014, building on SAITs established capacity in green building technologies(GBT) including expertise, facilities, industry engagement, and research competence amassed since the GBTinitiative was launched here in 2008SAIT continues to be an ideal location for the GBT Access Centre The construction sector accounts fornearly 12 per cent of Alberta's $306 7 billion gross domestic product, with the building product and servicesindustry contributing $9 billion of this prosperity The vast majority of companies in this industry are smallto medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with fewer than 50 employees Renewing the GBTAC for another fiveyears will continue to help strengthen the capacity of the regional innovation system by facilitating SMEaccess to leveraged funding, and provide partner SMEs, industry associations, governments andnon-governmental organizations with a local, accessible solution to innovation needs tied to the growinggreen building market Partners benefit from significant R&D infrastructure at the new GBT Lab andDemonstration Centre and in the other state-of-the-art labs in SAITs Applied Research and InnovationServices
