This research program aims to identify novel non-coding RNAs in human based on the convergence of RNA bioinformatics, human genetics and biochemistry. It will focus on four classes of non-coding RNAs that have not been studied extensively until now, including repetitive, chimeric and circular RNAs. RNA sequencing and analysis pipelines will be optimized to allow detection of these RNAs while their structure and interaction with proteins will be tested in vitro. This research will contribute to a better understanding of the architecture and the variability of the non-coding transcriptome in human and the role of these RNAs in cellular function.
