Eccomelt, a subsidiary of House of Metals, produces and markets an aluminum alloy from the recycling of aluminum rims through a patented process of cleaning and fragmentation. This product, known as Eccomelt356.2, has a composition very similar to that of A356.2 ingots and is offered to foundries as a substitute for primary aluminum A356.2. To increase its market share in the critical automotive market, House of Metals wants to develop foundry practices including dilution with A356.2 virgin ingots without affecting the mechanical properties of cast products made in whole or in part from Eccomelt356.2. The project goal is to study the effect of the molten metal treatment on metallurgical quality of casting in the T6 and T61 tempers of sand, permanent mold and high pressure die casting usually with special adapted heat treatments. Charges of Eccomelt will also be prepared with different mixing ratio of virgin ingots to Eccomelt356.2 treated with the best molten metal treatment processes. Metal quality will be assessed by tensile test from sample poured from those melt, by PoDFA for inclusion contents and metallographic evaluation. This research project will enable the industrial partner to gain a better understanding of the effect of casting conditions on the properties of parts cast from Eccomelt356.2. With the data obtained in this project, House of Metals will be able to guide its customers (foundries) towards an optimal use of its product in order to obtain the best possible properties of the castings. This should give the Eccomelt365.2 alloy an additional competitive advantage in addition to its initial economic and environmental advantage as a recycled product. One student from the Cégep de Trois Rivières will participate in the project for each year of the project.
该产品被称为Eccomelt356.2,其成分与A356.2锭非常相似,可作为原铝A356.2的替代品提供给铸造厂。
