Endurance Technologies Inc. specializes in providing engineering services in the fields of diffusion alloying products specifically tubing and casings. They have improved wear, erosion, abrasion and corrosion issues for oil and gas industries in the past. One of key challenges in the operations is reduction of failures in casings due to erosive environmental conditions, which typically experience in oil extractions. Such failures can cause economic burden for companies such as time and cost. To overcome the challenges, Endurance Technologies and University of Calgary have formed a collaborative relationship to develop a new technique to estimate the erosion rate with respect to various conditions. The collaborations will benefit both the company and the University of Calgary through the development of a novel measurement system mimicking the real world operations for dry and slurry erosion conditions. The main goal of this project is the investigation of the erosion rates for enhancing erosion resistance. In the proposed system, the parameters influencing the erosion rate of the internal surface of the tubing will be measured through dynamic analysis of the impacts on the internal surface of the tubing.
The developed system will be used for performing a comprehensive experimental investigation on the effects of different dry and slurry jet velocities, droplet sizes, fluids, etc. on bare and coated specimens. The new force measurement system will be incorporated along with the erosion testing apparatus. The outcomes of the project will enable Endurance Technologies to develop a model to predict and analyze the erosion and prevent catastrophic failures. The outcomes of the research will enable training of HQP and provide a competitive edge for Endurance Technologies for preventing erosion failures in oil and gas operations using the coated tubing or casing.
