Quantum computing has moved from academic labs to commercialization. While this is good news for most industries able to leverage quantum technology, there is now a 'quantum threat' to cybersecurity products that are used to protect private and important data.
There are cybersecurity tools that are resilient against quantum computation. These include Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) technologies. These tools are typically not used on their own, they are ingredients contained in larger secure networks and broader cybersecurity product offerings.
Canada and the UK have a rich heritage of quantum-safe research and development, and this project aims to bring together some of these products and designs from both countries and combine them in order to develop a Canadian-UK secure network built on the security principles of quantum-safe technologies.
