The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT Polytechnic) proposes to establish an NSERC Industrial Research Chair for Colleges within the department of Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) in order to assist the oil sands industry in Alberta and Western Canada to find pragmatic solutions to challenges associated with steam generation for in situ Oil Sands. The rationale for establishing the proposed Industrial Research Chair for Colleges in Oil Sands In Situ Steam Generation is to create a unique, world class applied research program that will help the energy sector make crucial reductions in fresh water usage and increase efficiency in steam/water recycling rates, while supporting cleaner energy production.
