项目摘要

The interactions between unsteady three-dimensional (3D) flows with airfoils and bluff bodies have a significant impact in many important applications as the aerospace and wind energy production and transportation. These phenomena are multi-physics and characterized by a complex flow and unsteady aerodynamics. The ultimate goal of my research program is to enhance the current fundamental knowledge regarding these phenomena and to transfer the outcomes to other researchers and end-users (Canadian industries and government). The proposed research will be conducted in the large wind tunnel at the Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS). It has a closed test section of 1.82 m1.82 m and a top speed of the air flow is 32 m/s. The effect of different parameters, as the Reynolds number and the angle of attack, will be evaluated. The spatiotemporal dynamics of the resulted unsteady wake will be investigated, namely the identification and development of the vortex structures. The measurements will be recorded using some high tech equipment as the Hot Wire Anemometry (HWA) and Tomographic Particle Image Velocimetry (Tomo-PIV). Highly qualified personnel (HQP) at different levels (PhDs, Masters and Undergraduate students) will be trained. They will gain highly demanded skills and expertise in many high technology sectors in Canada as experimental methods in fluid mechanics. These HQP will work in a stimulating and dynamic environment as the Department of mechanical engineering at the UdeS where complementary programs are offered to acquire transversal competencies.
