Future applications of connected and autonomous cars, smart transportation systems, Internet of vehicles (IoV) and connected smart cities will create an unprecedented demand for massive sensing, storage, communication and computation resources far beyond the capacity of current mobile computing and networking systems. The rising recent interests of connected and autonomous vehicles and the recent advances of mobile cloud computing and networking create new opportunities for smart and creative management and utilization of the available computing communication and storage resources using vehicular cloud paradigm. However, several fundamental and daunting challenges still remain open and need further and deep investigation. This proposal is devoted to developing the foundation towards an innovative vehicular cloud infrastructure, which will supply the need for all sort of resources, which in turn will handle the growing demands for computation, content, storage and spectrum resources, as well as connected and autonomous vehicles based-applications in general. To do so, this program will address critical and fundamental challenges in terms of vehicular cloud connectivity through large-scale mobile network management, cloud computing and optimized resource allocation for connected and autonomous vehicles' time-critical and infotainment based-applications. The PI is responding to the growing demands of connected and autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation systems. The long-term vision of this research is towards the design of efficient resource management and discovery protocols for V2E using vehicular cloud paradigm for smart and connected transportation systems. Last, but not least, this program is expected to produce the knowledge and principle that will lead to the development of a new era in the vehicular networking and service provisioning system for connected vehicular based applications, as well as training HQP in an areas with impressive growing demands by IT and transportation Canadian companies while assisting these Canadian industries to be the frontrunner of the technological advancements.
