项目摘要
Cloud computing is increasingly becoming an important resource for high-energy physics (HEP) experiments with large computing requirements. The HEP computing group at the University of Victoria is leading the effort to use clouds in the ATLAS and Belle II experiments. We have constructed a distributed system using clouds in Europe and North America. In addition, we are helping to manage the resources of the ATLAS High-Level Trigger (HLT), which is operated as a compute cloud during periods of no colliding beams. Our group has been funded by CFI and NSERC to expand the functionality of the distributed cloud computing system for data-intensive HEP applications. In addition, we are preparing a CFI for a Belle II Canadian Data Centre for storing and processing the raw data in Canada on a cloud-based system. The funds requested in this proposal will provide critical servers for a development and test platform for our projects. The outcome of the project will have long term benefit for the ATLAS and Belle II experiments, as well as provide an excellent training ground for highly qualified personnel.
