Tsaro is an elevator industry safety and security solutions company. Tsaro works closely with propertymanagement companies; elevator consultants, service and maintenance providers to help them offer qualityexperiences and meet regulatory changes using video, audio, and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions withhardware and data. Tsaro has released their audio-video surveillance solution for elevators on iOS and AndroidApp stores. They are developing an IoT product to track elevator usage and track operational incidents toidentify performance abnormalities that immediately indicate a broken elevator or inform preventativemaintenance scheduling. Tsaro would like support to further investigate and advance the system development,create a pilot deployment to investigate installation and operational challenges of the system; generate data andperform data analytics to help create a value added product for Tsaro's clients. The Mohawk College Energyand Power Innovation Centre (EPIC) has expertise in electrical systems, data acquisition and analyses, sensors,and product development that will help Tsaro develop its elevator monitoring system by collaborativelyinvestigating and testing sensors, configurations, data communications, processing, and analyses. There aremore than 25,000 office and residential elevators in Ontario, and a 2016 Canadian Press investigation foundthat 80% of elevators and escalators failed their inspections, and in 2015, firefighters in Ontario responded to4,461 calls to remove people from elevators, which had doubled since 2001. Tsaro will use and commercializethe project findings to reduce elevator downtime by an estimated 50% and to improve the efficiency of elevatormaintenance and management.
