This research chair aims at developing new families of robots that have theability to safely and intuitively interact with humans or that are inspired byhuman mechanics. On one hand, the research program targets the design ofassistive robots that can act as co-workers to humans in the performance ofphysical tasks, that can provide help to the handicapped or the elderly or thatcan be used for training purposes. On the other hand, the research aims atdeveloping novel robotic components such as robotic hands or articulated systemsthat can make robots capable of performing complex tasks that are currently notaccessible to robots. The research program of this chair is based on the uniqueexpertise developed at Laval University in the design, control andimplementation of advanced robotic systems. In essence, the global objective ofthe chair is to develop robots that will make a difference in people's lives.
