The Canada Research Chair in Machine Learning Systems will enhance an internationally-recognized research program, which consists of three complementary threads, unified by deep learning: 1) Algorithms and Architectures: developing new model structures and methods to automatically and efficiently learn parameters, yielding systems that are fundamentally better at converting data into useful results; 2) Applications: widening the scope of deep learning in terms of its application reach through interdisciplinary collaboration and open-source technology; and 3) Acceleration: exploiting recent advances in high-performance computing (HPC), specifically hardware accelerators, to scale the training and deployment of deep learning systems.
