The growing interest in nanomaterials stems from the remarkable effects arising from dimension reduction. The unique properties of graphene, the only two-dimensional (2D) material in nature, has inspired scientists to explore multidisciplinary approaches to obtain an emerging class of molecular-based low-dimensional nanomaterials. This program builds on nanoscience techniques and theoretical simulations for the hierarchical growth of nanopolymers on surfaces. Dr. Ebrahimi plans to utilize and adapt different solution-based coupling reactions to surfaces, to synthesize novel 2D polymers with tunable properties. The proposed nanomaterials with high chemical and thermal stabilities are promising for biocompatible surfaces and organic semiconductors applications.
