The upcoming evolution of wireless technologies is expected to lead to an unprecedented leap in speed, latency and number of connected devices while profoundly transforming our connected society. The 5th-generation (5G) networks and beyond are anticipated to connect billions of Internet of Things (IoT) devices while also bringing a dramatic growth in generated data traffic, and a promise of novel and unforeseen applications. Meeting the requirements of high data rates, high mobility, and low latency of novel applications requires solutions that leverage and adapt the network operation to the applications' context and dynamic environment and to support real-time processing near where the data is generated. ***** The fundamental goal of the proposed NSERC Discovery grant program is to develop transformative tools, algorithms and architectures for mobile edge networks in supporting the provisioning of services for novel applications introduced by 5G networks and beyond while handling the dynamic IoT traffic and diverse service requirements. To achieve this goal, we will integrate innovative autonomous, collaborative, and intelligent strategies at the mobile edge network. We will investigate how these strategies can be leveraged to allow new predictive (traffic, mobility, etc.) and service-aware techniques to dynamically adapt network resource allocation and orchestration at the edge to meet the diverse quality of service demands of applications. In enabling processing and analytics close to the source, we will investigate the instrumental role of the mobile edge network in providing an interlaced fabric of autonomous and collaborative provisioning of capabilities for machine learning and inference at the edge. *****The innovative research program will lay the ground for a unified approach to the concept of Intelligent Mobile Edge Network that provides a new playground for innovation in services to emerge and thrive, thus enhancing Canada's leadership position in mobile services and telecommunications sectors. *****The highly qualified personnel trained in the program will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge and know-how that are high in demand in industry, consolidating the impacts of the NSERC Discovery program through and technology transfers*****
