This international collaboration between Physicists, Computer Scientists, and Engineers in Canada, Croatia, Netherlands will create new opportunities for applications of Quantum Technologies (algorithms and systems) for the optimization of operations of Electrical Power Grids. In collaboration with international experts, we will develop quantum algorithms for solving the AC power flow balance equations. The quantum approach for solving the power flow will be of commercial interest to electrical grid operators in regulatory open markets. There will be a possibility for the Canadian companies in the Quantum technologies sector to utilize and build on this approach. This project will train an undergraduate student in quantum methods for approximation and optimization.
