To clarify carecr patterns of elite high school soccer playrs, a research was undertaken. The objects of this research were the elite high school athletes who were belonging to 16 high schools. Additionally, a cross-national research was undertaken. The purpose of this research was to clarify the features of Japanese style sports career development in athletes. Because of the space limitation, I would like to report the results of former research. Athletes were exclusively involved in soccer from the earlier time of their life. Soccer was a significant part of their life, and they wanted to be a superior athlete in the future. They playd soccer at the local and school clubs. They started to play soccer by their self's decosion and the influences of media and friends. For a few people, soccer was an influential factor to go on to middle high school. In contrast to the above, when people went on to high school, soccer became a crucial factor. They spend 1 to 2 months a year for an expend … More ition. It was supposed that their anxieties about their future life, occupational status and academic ability were caused this fact. After graduate from high school, above 40% of athletes want to go on to a university. The athlete who wants to be a professional soccer playr after graduate high school was a few.Regarding a retirement from the sport career, a research was undertaken. The objects of this research were the athletes who playd a sport at the university. Main findings were as follows. There was a great deal of sacrifices to play sport at the university. Above 40% of athletes wanted to be a superior athlete in the future. Twenty percents of athletes were admitted to go on university by a recommendation. Near the 80% of objects playd sport at the company or the teaching staff's team after graduated university. They decided the retirement from the sport carcer spontaneously. The reasons of their retirement were the decrease of their physical strength and willingness to maintain high level of sport activity and limitation of time. Less than 20% of athletes did an occupational preparation after their retirement, but the people who felt some problem about their occupation were a quite few. This was understood that many people could get a position relating to sport and physical education. Less
