Navigating transnational confianza: Relocating agency in Salvadoran migration

My project offers insight into a previously under theorized aspect of migration: trust. Through exploring local understandings of bonds of trust (confianza) in El Salvador, my research highlights the role that trust plays as both a push and a pull factor in migrants' decision-making processes. Upon dissemination, I assert that this research has the potential to impact academic theory, policy, and NGO practice. Recognizing this element of trust recenters the agency of the migrant amidst Neoliberal violence granting researchers and practitioners deeper insight into why people migrate and why they migrate to the place that they do. With this knowledge, NGO practitioners and Policy makers will be able to promote projects and government action that promotes trust-building activities both before and after migrants migrate.
