Spaces of sanctuary in theatre and creative practice: combatting loneliness and creating community.

Inspired by the collaboration between Curious Monkey and NU on the production of Here (a theatre production about finding sanctuary in the unlikeliest of places), this project focuses on the ways in which spaces of sanctuary in theatre and creative practice combat loneliness and create a sense of community for those involved. Through a series of forty in-depth narrative interviews with refugees and asylum seekers involved in Curious Monkey's work - and related arts and theatre initiatives - the project makes an important contribution to advancing understanding of the benefits of refugee involvement in cultural, artistic, and theatre work.
