Jacot JG,McCulloch AD & Omens JH. Jacot,JG,Omens,JH,McCulloch,AD.
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The progression of heart disease and the development of heart tissue are accompanied by changes in the mechanical properties of the extracellular matrix. For example, in ischemic and hypertrophic heart disease, fibrosis is common. Since myocyte growth and remodeling is in part governed by mechanical signaling, differences in the mechanical resistance to contraction may in turn alter cardiomyocyte behavior. This study aims to understand the effects of passive mechanics on cardiomyocyte function and to determine the signaling mechanisms involved in order to identify targets of novel therapies.
