BIOCHEMICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL, AND TRACE ELEMENT STUDIES IN ALZHEIMER'S DISESAE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The objective of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center Clinical Core is to provide clinical data, study participants and the means of obtaining autopsy materials for research. It is designed to aid research on current central scientific questions in AD and related diseases. The clinical core does not address these questions directly, but makes available a group of well-characterized subjects to enable substantive research on these important current questions. To do this, the clinical core 1) follows a group of community-dwelling normal elderly individuals to autopsy, 2) follows an existing group of individuals with dementia to autopsy, 3) evaluates and diagnoses individuals with memory disorders, and 4) adds to the registry of individuals who are potential participants in research studies.
