DOPAMINERGIC FUNCTION IN YOUNG CANNABIS ABUSERS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The study proposed in this R21 exploratory/developmental grant will compare fifteen 18-21 year old subjects with a history of prolonged cannabis exposure in adolescence (duration of cannabis use must be more than one year before age 18) and admitted to a residential rehabilitation program (Aurora Concept, Incorporated), with fifteen age- and sex-matched healthy subjects. Regional glucose metabolism (assessed with 18-fluoro-2-deoxy-glucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) and dopamine D2 receptor availability (assessed with [11C]-raclopride and PET) will be measured.
