Pumps for mass spectrometer

We are requesting funding for vacuum pumps for thermal ionisation mass spectrometer housed at the GEOTOP UQAM-McGill Research center at the Université du Québec à Montréal. These pumps will replace aging and now obsolete pumps for our most heavily used mass spectrometer. The pumps are  required to lower the pressure of the sample chamber from atmospheric levels to analytical levels of 10(-7) Torr. The present pumps require more frequent maitenance and the manufacturer has advised us they can no longer supply the necessary parts for continued maintenance. A replacement of the pumps is crucial for continuing our research programs. The mass spectrometer in question supplies the bulk of geochronological and tracer isotope data for studies ranging from the evolution of the Earth to climate change.
