My group's research on developing new synthetic molecules for the control of protein-protein interactions depends critically upon our ability to purify both proteins of interest and the small molecules that are intended to affect their function.This proposal seeks funds for a combination Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography (FPLC) / High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) system to be used for the purification of molecules of all sizes (including biological molecules like proteins). This equipment is an essential part of my group's efforts to develop novel chemial modulators of protein-protein interactions, with a long-term goal of engineering fundamentally new medicines for the treatment of cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other diseases.
