Roles of peripherally derived BDNF in regeneration of spinal cord and the mechanisms

由于缺乏再生，大脑和脊髓的损伤通常会导致永久性残疾。中枢神经不能再生的机制尚不清楚。神经营养因子是一种可以克服抑制因子对再生的影响的强大分子。本项目旨在研究神经营养因子如何超越抑制因子的作用，以及如何通过增加神经内神经营养因子的产生来促进再生。该项目的成功完成将有助于了解神经营养因子对再生的作用机制，并开发促进损伤脊髓再生的有效途径。

Injury to the brain and spinal cord often leads to permanent disability due to lack of regeneration. The mechanism why central nerve does not regenerate is not known. Neurotrophic factors are powerful molecules which can overcome effects of inhibitory factors on regeneration. This project aims to investigate how neurotrophic factors override the effects of inhibitory factors and how to improve the regeneration by increasing the production of neurotrophic factors within nerves. Successful completion of this project will help understanding the mechanism of how neurotrophic factors work on regeneration and developing the effective way to improve regeneration of the injured spinal cord.
