The Ecology Group within the Department of Biology, Concordia University is a vibrant and growing group engaged in a diverse range of ecological research. A common theme within the seven members of our Ecology Group is a heavy reliance on field-based research. These field research projects help to train numerous graduate and undergraduate students in a range of field ecology techniques. Our group has 11 ongoing field research projects, which cover a broad taxonomic spectrum (fish, mammals, insects, plants, microbes) and are conducted in five provinces (ON, QC, NB, NS, NL). A critical piece of equipment that is necessary for the success of these field research projects is a well-equipped and dependable field vehicle. Our proposal is a request for funding to purchase a new departmental field truck that will be shared among the seven externally funded members of the Ecology Group and their estimated 34 students. We are requesting funds to purchase a four-wheel drive, crew-cab pickup that will: i) meet the research needs of our growing group, ii) be capable of safely accessing field sites in remote areas and iii) be capable of transporting people, field gear and samples.
