With the increasing demands for wireless networks with high capacity, efficiency, and reliability, combatting signal fading in wireless channels is one of the most fundamental problems in wireless communications. Network cooperative diversity, a recently emerged concept that has drawn considerable attention during the past decade, has been shown to be a promising solution. Its basic idea is to mitigate fading by allowing multiple nodes in the network to help each other's communication tasks.
