Sterilizers for research in biotechnology

该笔拨款是用以购置一台小型及一台大型消毒器，这两台消毒器是生物及环境工程学研究的必要设施，而生物及环境工程学研究分别须对小规模或大规模的培养基、制剂、生物废物及培养器皿进行消毒。目前，渥太华大学工程学院两个系的六个研究小组一直依赖25年前购买的两个过时的单位进行灭菌操作。然而，这两个老单位已经显示出明显的老化和恶化迹象，导致重大的安全问题和研究的频繁中断。 使用RTI赠款购买的灭菌器将使我们能够更新这一重要的研究能力。

The grant is for purchase of a bench scale and a large scale sterilizer that are essential facilities for studies in Biological and Environmental Engineering, where sterilization of media, agents, biological wastes and cultivation vessels at small or large scale, respectively, are required. Currently, six research groups in two departments in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa have been relying on two outdated units that were purchased 25 years ago for sterilization operations. These two old units, however, have shown clear signs of aging and deterioration, causing significant safety concerns and frequent interruptions in research. The sterilizers to be purchased using the RTI grant will allow us to renew this essential research capacity.
