The current project is designed to provide information for CULEX Environmental Ltd. about which mosquito species in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, are potential vectors of disease viruses. At Brock University, we have the expertise necessary to do this type of research and we will (1) determine the molecular barcodes for Costa Rican mosquitoes, (2) establish which species are positive for arboviral infections, and (3) develop a molecular toolkit that the company can use in the field for determining species and infection status.
