英文摘要
The urgent need for the development of new low cost, environmentally friendly, and energy efficient lighting technologies, which can serve as a viable replacement for traditional incandescent light bulbs, has created new market opportunities within lighting and consumer electronic industry. We designed and prepared a low-cost hybrid nanomaterial (NanoLite) which illuminates white light with tunable chromaticity, optimal colour rendering index, and high efficiency. This new nanomaterial can be processed into light emitting structures and devices from liquid (i.e. solution) or solid (i.e. powder) forms. The material is constructed by a simple method from colloidal nanocrystals, and acts as a single illumination entity, rather than a mixture, providing a homogeneous and uniform white light emission. Because of its versatility and chemical compatibility this material can be used in various configurations and devices from light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and fluorescent lamps to displays, luminescent liquids, and polymer/plastic panels. As a part of this Market Assessment grant we will perform a broad and thorough market analysis to identify most suitable market opportunities, as well as technical, marketing, and financial challenges associated with the application of the current technology in a particular market segment. This market analysis will focus on LED market, with a particular emphasis on health and agricultural lighting. Other niche markets, including mobile display and automotive industry will also be explored. A successful outcome of this market assessment will further guide the development of the prototype devices, help formulate the commercialization strategy, and attract early stage investments.
