Rapidly developed printed electronics promote new possibilities for low-cost biomedical healthcare devices to continuously monitor vital biological signals. The proposed approach will combine nanotechnology, direct printing and rapid prototyping. I propose a system-level approach for the design and printing of stretchable biomedical sensor systems using functional nano-ink material. The proposed approach builds on the historical trend of how wireless sensor systems have been developed, where various micro-devices have been integrated into a single device. However, the proposed approach is novel in that it brings the printed electronics concept to the biomedical field. Printed electronics have the potential to improve functionality while reducing the costs at the system level. Recent advances in the field of flexible electronics have reached a stage of sophistication in material properties, device understanding, and reproducibility that have demonstrated both potential value and the capacity to support more challenging applications. Therefore, pivotal innovations in process-efficient printing techniques can result in an entirely new generation of E-health sensor products and devices When combined with high-resolution direct printing of functional electronic nano inks, this innovation strategy will result in a new cost-effective and precise industrial standard that supersedes the best methods in use today. This would give Canada a strategic advantage in attachable bio-medical sensors.
