The objective of this research aims at developing effective methods and algorithms for the analysis of the video and audio signals captured by a remote monitoring system. This research will be done in partnership with iWatchLife, an Ottawa-based company. The research will focus on identifying, developing, implementing and testing the most appropriate approaches for the recognition of humans and animals in images and videos; the automatic generation of video summaries; the recognition and detection of abnormal audio events, the recognition/verification of a speaker identity using audio, and the detection and classification of baby sounds.
