The Lookout Driving Safety System developed by Viewnyx continuously views the road in front of a truck, capturing videos based**upon driver activity and generating warnings for dangerous driving situations. The objective is to assist fleet owners in lowering**their driving liability costs by addressing the main cause of collisions: driving error, distraction and drowsiness. The system**provides provides Safety Managers with driver and fleet risk assessment reports and tools to facilitate proactive coaching and**training to eliminate high-risk behaviours. Viewnyx is looking to expand the functionality of the Lookout unit by adding a camerabased**object detection capability to identify objects in the path of the vehicle and assess the distance to them and their speed**relative to the vehicle. This would enable the system to provide new functionality such as forward collision warning and**identification of high risk behaviours such as driving too close to the vehicle in front. The aim of this project would be to develop a**prototype vehicle detection and ranging capability for the Lookout unit that would allow Viewnyx to assess the feasibility of adding**this functionality and form the basis for the full integration of this functionality into the Lookout system.
