Nonlinear optics allows different wavelengths of light to be generated from already existing wavelengths. Nonlinear optics is present in our daily activities, where it is responsible for achieving green-light emission in commercially available laser pointers and is required in numerous medical applications paramount to the health industry. Although this area has received a surge of novel research over the past few decades, much of it is stand-alone experimental data or experimental data in conjunction with very simple theoretical or numerical models. For this area to experience continued development, it is important to construct a novel computational algorithm having the ability to comprehensively model these nonlinear physical phenomena. Such a model would allow researchers to predict the outcome of different experimental situations, allowing them to optimize their setup prior to performing any expensive experiments. This would reduce the substantial costs associated with performing experiments, allow a larger variety of situations to be investigated, and allow the researchers to verify their experimental observations. Optiwave Systems Inc. and researchers from the University of Alberta are collaborating with the objective of developing a novel algorithm capable of accurately modelling nonlinear physical phenomenon. By offering this newly developed product to Canadian and international customers, Optiwave will see financial benefits and Canada will observe increased acknowledgment for their emphasis on new ideas and novel research.**
