Le Centre TD est un grand complexe de bureaux commerciaux situé au centre-ville de Toronto et composé de six tours, dont la plus grande, la TD1, a une superficie de plus de 1,7 million de pieds carrés. En raison de la hauteur et des interconnexions complexes entre ce bâtiment et le hall, il se produit un état important d'effet de cheminée qui provoque une infiltration excessive qui entraîne à la fois des problèmes de confort thermique et une perte d'énergie pour le chauffage et le refroidissement. Cette recherche comportera une série d'expériences avec un modèle d'apprentissage automatique afin d'identifier les caractéristiques opérationnelles du bâtiment en exploitation pour une condition météorologique donnée, améliorant ainsi la performance globale du bâtiment. Le TD1 sera équipé de capteurs de pression afin de mesurer le régime de pression du bâtiment dans diverses conditions (conditions météorologiques variées, occupation, stratégies de conception). Ces données mesurées seront utilisées pour développer des modèles basés sur l'apprentissage machine afin d'optimiser le fonctionnement du système de ventilation de TD1. Le modèle résultant augmentera le confort thermique et réduira l'utilisation d'énergie perdue dans le TD1.
