Acceptability of electrical vehicles by the society requires an increase of the autonomy and a quick charge of these vehicles. To increase the autonomy, the consumption of the classical heat and ventilation air-conditioning system must be reduced, which calls for the need of a heat pump and an overall more powerful fan system. To reduce the charging time requires to dissipate more heat in the vehicle underhood compartment and on the vehicle charging station, which again calls for more powerful cooling ventilation systems. In both cases, noise is significantly increased, most noticeably in urban areas and at night. The project thus proposes to design electrical cooling modules that are optimized acoustically to meet present noise specifications in urban zones, by combining both active and passive control of fan noise. The methodology will also be innovative and will rely on an original combination of direct aeroacoustic simulations of full modules, the dimension of which will be parametrized and can be adjusted automatically within the Computer-Aided Design software. To efficiently compute the noise of such complex systems, the Lattice Boltzmann Method is selected as it is presently the most efficient simulation technique to obtain acoustic signature in low speed applications. Such a method will allow to quickly iterate on the shape parameters of the module and the fan, and therefore to test various techniques of passive noise reduction to yield a final prototype that is significantly quieter than the initial module.
