9552922 Jacobsen The University of California, Los Angeles, School of Engineering and Applied Science will initiate a 6-week summer commuter, Young Scholars project in mathematics and engineering for 30 students entering grade 10. The program will provide research training in geometry within a thematic framework of environmental science, engineering and technology. Class discussions, video illustrations, and computer aided instruction will help students achieve mastery. Educational planning, career exploration and parental involvement activities will also be included. ten Saturday meetings during academic year follow-up activities will provide continuity of instruction, monitor college pre course enrollment and continue parental involvement.
