AbstractAward: DMS-0715254Principal Investigator: Stavros Garoufalidis, Thang T. Q. LeThis award provides partial support for participants in theInternational Conference on Quantum Topology to be held in HaNoi, Vietnam, in August 2007. The conference aims to educatejunior researchers in Quantum Topology, discuss new developmentsin the area, and bring together different points of view ofGeometry, Topology, Algebra and Quantum Field Theory. Scientificthemes of the conference include quantum invariants of knots andlinks, Heegard Floer homology, Khovanov homology, asymptoticstatements for quantum invariants (including the widely--studiedVolume Conjecture), and geometric topology of three--manifolds.Quantum topology grew out of ideas and theorems of physicists andmathematicians in the 1980s and 1990s on relations betweenquantum field theories and geometry. That work introduced anumber of new algebraic and combinatorial devices to describe andattempt to distinguish low-dimensional spaces such as thecomplement of a knotted curve in three-dimensional Euclideanspace. This conference will bring together old and new aspectsof quantum topology to add to our understanding of these toolsand to uncover new problems for research in the field.
