英文摘要
The theory project contributes to the field of Spin Caloritronics by detailed investigations on various spin-dependent thermo-galvanic effects. Material specific calculations based on ab-initio electronic structure methods on the anisotropic Seebeck and anomalous Nernst effects in ferromagnets are meant among other things to reveal their relationship to the anisotropic magneto-resistance and anomalous Hall effect being their electronic counterparts. The work on implicitly spin-dependent effects will be continued by investigating the spin Seebeck and spin Nernst effects that have a great potential for applications as they lead directly to spin currents. The spin Nernst effect as the counterpart to the spin Hall effect is expected to exist even for non-magnetic materials. A central issue of the investigations on the various types of the Nernst effect will be the scaling behavior of different transport coefficients with respect to the corresponding isotropic conductivity. This gives information on the dominating scattering mechanisms responsible for the extrinsic contributions to the Nernst effects. Investigations on disordered alloys are performed, in particular, to exploit the concentration as an implicit parameter for an analysis of the scaling behavior. Corresponding work on layered systems will focus on the influence of specific system parameters. All work will be done in close collaboration with experimental partners to support their activities and to get important feedback for further developments.
