GRK 311: Anthropological Foundations and Developments in Christianity and Islam

The aim of this research training group is the study of significant preconditions and foundations of the understanding of Man in Christianity and Islam, and its historical developments and modern expressions. For this purpose, it supports doctoral dissertations and post-doctoral research projects which examine anthropological aspects in either of the two religious traditions, or which compare them in a theological or historical way or in their modern social context. Another important area of interest is the treatment of such questions within scholarly inter-religious dialogue. Discussion between representatives of the different disciplines of Roman Catholic and Lutheran Theology, Oriental Studies and Philosophy which are involved in the postgraduate course is systematically carried on. The accompanying program includes colloquia, seminaries, guest lectures, and symposia. Among the participants are distinguished scholars from Western as well as Islamic countries.
