项目摘要

本研究は、インド・シッキム州に渡航の上、現地滞在によるフィールドワークを前提とするものであった。しかし、2020年より始まった新型コロナウイルス感染症の世界的なパンデミックの影響により、当該地域に渡航の上での現地調査は非常に困難な状況であった。実際に渡航の上での現地調査は2022年11月より可能となったため、ビザ取得後直ちに当該地域に渡航の上でフィールドワークを実施した。本補助金分では、研究項目②：特定の集落におけるシンクレティックな宗教実践について、現地調査を通じて観察・記録する。③：当地域において異なる宗教を信仰する人々や、異なる民族の関係性を明らかにする。④：①～③のデータを基に「共存をめぐる在来知」について析出する。そして最後に、⑤：④をもとに現代的「宗教人類学」を構想する、以上の4点を中心に現地調査を実施した。本研究課題と研究項目の遂行のため、シッキム州南東部に位置する地方都市パキョン及び周辺の村落地域において、当該地区に滞在のうえでフィールドワークを実施した。特にC地区を対象地域として設定し滞在しつつ、当該地区の歴史、経済、生業、親族関係、宗教実践などについて、聞き取りや観察を行った。宗教儀礼や結婚儀礼、さらに葬送儀礼にも参加しつつ記録やインタビューを行い、それぞれの儀礼の中でどのような人々が参加し、何を目的にどのように運営されているのかについて聞き取りも行った。さらに宗教実践についても、僧院に在籍するラマだけではなく、複数の民族それぞれに異なる民間の宗教的職能者も多数存在しており、彼らの世界観や実践さらにそれらにまつわる論理について、情報や事例の収集を進めた。
